Commercial Open Source Business Model
Openfiler has chosen the popular Commercial/Open Source model to distribute and support Openfiler. Under this model, the end user of the software does not purchase the software. Rather, they pay a subscription for technical support of certain functionality available within the software. The subscription also covers software maintenance and feature enhancements.This may take some familiarization for resellers and systems integrators that are accustomed to the traditional model of software distribution - namely paying a single fee for the server software and each individual network client in the form of Client Access Licenses.
Commercial/Open Source is a tried and tested business model in use by many software vendors today and is redefining the way software is developed, distributed, used and supported.
Customer Advantage
Openfiler does not place any restrictions on the functionality of the software which theend-user may utilize. All software features are available to all subscribers at all license
subscription levels. However, based on the end user expected deployment scenario, they
are able to choose a support license subscription level that will best suit their environment
and expected usage. There are currently three support subscription levels available:
